Newsletter 10 July 2015

Dear Parents

Reports : Your child’s annual report is coming home today, so search their book bags! If you would like to discuss the report further, please make an appointment with the class teacher. Please note that absences are recorded up to the end of May, however the 100% attendance awards are given for attendance to the end of term.

Breakfast Club : From next Monday, 13 July, Breakfast Club will take place in the School Hall – parents should use the main school entrance and take children to the Hall to hand over to staff. Many thanks.

Sports

Sports Day: Well done to the Yellow team! Thank you to all the marshals and to everyone who came along to support, despite the change of day due to the rain. Thank you to FOHNS for providing refreshments. The Red team are overall winners of the joint Sports Cup.

Foundation Stage Sports Day takes place next Tuesday 14 July (10.30am for morning children and 2.10pm for afternoon children – parents of full-timers are welcome to attend either).

Clubs : Information about next terms clubs is being sent home tonight – it would be really helpful if you could return the slips by the end of term in case we need to consider cancelling those under-subscribed. Our thanks to all the volunteers who have run a variety of different activities over the past year, particularly Kate Randall and Penny Evans who have been running Gardening Club. If any parents would like to volunteer to run this, or suggestions of any other club from Term 2, please speak with Mrs Hope – appropriate DBS checks need to be in place.

Friends BBQ: from 5.30pm tonight! : It promises to be a lovely evening, so come along and enjoy a Beer or glass of Pimms from our Licenced Bar, and Burgers/Hotdogs, this year being prepared and served by our caterers, The School Lunch Company, on a profit-share basis. There are wonderful raffle prizes, and lots of activities for the children. The Friends will have the second-hand uniform out for sale – and new small Sports Day t-shirts suitable for the Reception year group going into Year 1 now that parents have been advised of their child’s team colours.

Cake Sale – Wednesday 15 July : Year Five will be holding a cake sale after school next Wednesday in aid of CLIC Sargent and “Bandanas For The Brave”, which are both charities that support children and young people with cancer. It will be in the courtyard, or the hall if wet. If anyone from other classes would like to donate cakes for the sale please bring them in to the library on Wednesday morning. Please come and support us.

Open Afternoon: it was lovely to see so many parents attend the Open Afternoon looking at the work children have done over the year.

School Lottery : Congratulations to Lottery winners Sue Wood (April), Dorothy Cantrell (May), and Amanda Everitt (June).

Year 6 Music Concert: Thank you to the Year 6 children who participated in the concert this morning; they played and sang beautifully.

ACTIVITIES/VISITS : Continuing the music theme, the Piano group performed to parents after Open Afternoon, Mr Allen’s woodwind group performed in assembly on Monday, and Music exams took place in our Study Centre yesterday.

New children visited the Foundation Stage, Year 6 and Year 5 enjoyed a ‘virtual’ journey to the Sun in a special ‘Sun Dome’, a free resource funded directly by public engagement funds. We hosted RE training for the Oxford Diocese which Miss Persaud, our RE Co-ordinator attended. The second Forest Schools group in the Foundation Stage enjoyed an all-day visit, Year 5 were visited by Chipping Norton School pupils for a Drama workshop, and a group of Year 4‘s and 5’s attended an Able Gifted & Talented Maths session at Chipping Norton School. Message from the Oxford Health School Nursing Team : It seems that summer has arrived at last!! The forecast this week predicts hot temperatures. Please make sure your child wears sunscreen and covers their shoulders when outside – a hat is a good idea too. Please encourage children to drink plenty of water and so it will be helpful if they bring a bottle of water that they can refill during the day. Some students put their bottle in the freezer over night to ensure their drink stays cold all day. It is also during these hot spells that young people are often tempted to cool off in the river. It is not safe to play in the river which often has deceptively strong currents. We will be advising them against this and hope you will reinforce this message at home too. Please find below some useful links: https://www.rospa.com/leisure-safety/water/advice/children-young-people/https://kidshealth.org/teen/safety/safebasics/water_safety.html With best wishes for a safe summer break.

Reminders:

End of Term 6 : Friday 17 July at 1.30pm (to give staff time to clear classrooms for the summer clean).

School returns : Wednesday 2 September Yrs1-6/Friday 4 September FSU (to enable Foundation Stage staff to carry out home visits to new children starting in the Autumn term).

Christian Value of the month: Humility

Yours sincerely
