Gardening Club RHS Awards
Thanks to the commitment and support of our fantastic team of volunteers the Gardening Club have now achieved all 5 levels of the RHS Schools Awards in just one year!
For Level 1 we provided evidence about setting up the Club, providing volunteers and understanding the benefits of gardening to children. We gained a growing year calendar. For Level 2 it was about involving the children in what we wanted to grow, starting that process and learning how to use tools, for that we received two RHS Gardening books. Both these Levels were achieved in November 2017. For Level 3 it was about implementing those skills, starting to think about the environment and local community. We received a Voucher to redeem plants and fruit trees for a Spring, Autumn and Winter Garden which was achieved in April 2018. Level 4 was about starting to plan and harvest seasonally and to fundraise for the Garden and finally Level 5 was about informing others, sharing our garden with the local community through fundraising events and passing on our skills and knowledge to others. For Level 4 we obtained £100 worth of seeds and for Level 5 a £200 National Garden Voucher. Both these were achieved on the 5th September 2018.

FOHNS AGM : Thank you to the parents who attended the AGM. FOHNS raised a magnificent £12,000 last year towards the pirate ship and daily mile track. Next year’s projects will include a new school website that will be very user friendly and the go-to place for all information on the school.
We have a very small, but dedicated committee, but we really need more support.
You may have seen the news today that head teachers from all over the country are descending on Downing Street to protest at the cuts in schools’ budgets. Schools, including ours, are in real difficulty, trying to balance the books. We simply do not have enough money to pay for salaries, resources, energy and services, without making cuts. In addition, with the cuts to council services we are now having to pay for services that used to be free such as Educational Psychologists, Behaviour Support and training courses.
Therefore, the work that FOHNS does is even more important in helping provide resources for all of our children. Ideally, we would like to have two reps for each year group. Any time you can spare will be gratefully received; it is a great opportunity to meet new friends as well! Please let us know if you can help.
Activities this week: Year 3 delivered a lovely assembly for the school and families. It was amazing how much work they have already done! Year 6 had a Make Me Smile workshop focusing on mental health and well- being. They will now run a workshop for Y4s and have the opportunity to be well-being ambassadors for the school. We will also be holding a Make Me Smile Day that all the children can get involved with very soon.
Attendance: Well Done to Elf Owls and Little Owls for almost Full Attendance 17-21 September.
