We have had a great week this week learning about life in the Victorian times. Children can talk about ways that life was different in the past. Inside we replaced our paper with chalk boards, created Victorian transport models and learnt about the similarities and differences between Victorian toys and the toys we play with now. The children have used books and the internet to answer their own questions about Victorian toys (and Victorian toilet paper…)! Thank you to parents and children who did some work at home on this topic – it gave us a brilliant starting point for the week’s work. Did you know, for example, that it wasn’t really all black and white in the Victorian times?!
Outside we have been thinking about jobs people have and people who help us. We have been playing with the fire station set, thinking about the different uniforms people wear and thinking about the jobs we would like when we’re grown-ups!
Mrs Collins delivered a wonderful Collective Worship on Thursday.
Phonics & Maths:
In Phonics we are working towards children’s individual targets. Some children have started to learn about letter names. Can your child link lower case letters to letter names?
In Maths we have been learning about money and measures.
We will be learning about weddings leading up to the royal wedding on Saturday. If your child has been to a wedding before, please feel free to send in a photograph or two with some writing about what they did at the wedding to share with the class.
We’re still missing a few technology homework sheets – please check your child’s book bag / reading record book. These really help us with our assessments for Technology. Thanks to those who have already handed these in.
Please return the permission slip for our visit to Stratford Butterfly Farm (on paper or via ParentMail) by Friday 18th May.
Forest school group 2 on Tuesday 15th May. Please can the morning group come ready to leave and the afternoon group come with their waterproofs and wellies in a named bag. Please send children with an extra carrier bag for their dirty kit, preferably named. Please make sure you have checked the Forest School board so that you know which group your child is now in. Thank you for signing up to help. Please make sure your child has waterproof trousers and a waterproof coat, regardless of the weather. These protect children from scratches and stings as well as the rain. Our morning and afternoon trips to the forest were delayed this week because of missing kit.
Please continue to focus on practicing writing at home.
Please keep children with you on the playground before and after school.
