We have had a wonderful start to the new term and the children have settled in very well. We would like to welcome our new children. We have all had great fun exploring the activities inside and out, and helping to get our classroom ready for the year. The children have done a great job at coming into the cloakroom on their own in the mornings and they are getting used to their new registration groups: Lions and Tigers. Ask your child which group they’re in!
Everyone has read to their key person and we have sent home books and home-school link books in the children’s book bags. Books will be changed on your child’s reading day- Wednesday for Tigers and Thursday for Lions.
Phonics & Maths: In Phonics we have been learning our cues and instructions for the Read Write Inc. programme and have learnt the first two sounds; m and a. Thank you for helping your child to practice these at home and keeping their sheets together in the reading record books.
In Maths we have been learning about the conservation of number, practicing counting sets of items and matching sets to a numeral. The children have especially enjoyed our ‘Naughty Princess’ game!
Next Week: We will be having book week, focussing on The Rainbow Fish which we are very excited about!
Learning Journeys: Next week’s Learning Journey children will be Effie and Henry. (We can discuss these further on Monday for new parents).
Well done to those who have managed to name all of their children’s belongings. Please make sure that all items of clothing are named including coats, hats and spare clothes. See your child’s tick sheet for more information.
Please encourage your child not to bring in their toys/items from home as they could get lost or broken.
We are offering a parents information session at 2.40-3pm on Monday 18thSeptember in the Study Centre to discuss ways of supporting your child in phonics and Maths throughout Reception year. We would love to see you there.
Forest School will begin on Tuesday (if we have enough volunteer parent helpers!) with a beginner’s session on the field. Group 1 AM and PM groups this week. Please make sure your child has their full kit. Children going in the morning can come in full kit and those going in the afternoon need to bring their kit in a named carrier bag. Information on groupings and a sign-up sheet for parent helpers can be found on the Forest School board in between Reception and Nursery.
Please keep younger children with you in our outdoor area.
Please be mindful of the bottleneck created at our gate in the mornings. Please leave space for parents of older children to exit the playground- we don’t open our gates until the older children have gone in.
Please enquire at the office if you have not yet received a code for ParentMail for your Reception child. Further newsletters will be sent by ParentMail and displayed in the classroom window.
