Reception Times 25 November 2016

This Week:

The children are very excited about having the opportunity to go to see Key Stage 2’s dress rehearsal of Porridge this afternoon! Unfortunately we have been unable to get into the hall this week for PE due to the rehearsal schedule. We will definitely be doing regular PE after Christmas and apologise for the delays in getting into the hall.

This week we have been celebrating all things American for American Thanksgiving. We started the week with a talk from Claudia’s mummy who showed us some photographs of New York’s Thanksgiving Parade, read us a lovely story about the origin of Thanksgiving and helped us to understand how Americans celebrate Thanksgiving. Since then we have been hosting Thanksgiving dinners in our American Home Role Play area, making American flags, learning about American animals, making American Chocolate Brownies and making Thanksgiving cards. Outside we have been making red, white and blue salt dough, gluing and sticking Thanksgiving dinner plates and printing red, white and blue patterns.

Phonics:

In phonics we have learnt to read and write the sounds-‘ng’ and ‘nk’. We are practicingsegmenting and writing words. We have now covered all of the Set 1 sounds in Read Write Inc and will be working on using these sounds to blend in reading and writing.

Maths:

This week we have been printing and naming 2d shapes and listing their properties, making red, white and blue stars using equilateral triangles, reciting the days of the week in order and beginning to recite the months of the year. Does your child know which month their birthday is in?

Learning Journeys:

Next week’s Learning Journeys will beBeau, Clemmie, Victoria and Imogen.
