Live Love Care Think Learn Dare

Reception Times 8 December 2017

We have had another great week learning about The Gingerbread Man. Inside we have made salt dough Christmas tree decorations, written letters to Santa and experimented with making boats so that the Gingerbread Man can cross the river safely. We have also been making up new versions of the story- ask your child what happened to the Gingerbread Man on safari in Africa!

Outside we have been creating nativity scenes, making holly decorations for the school reception area and threading patterned decorations using red and green pasta shapes.

Mrs Collins delivered a wonderful Collective Worship on the importance of Community, our Owl Value of the Month.

We are looking forward to seeing Key Stage 1’s nativity this afternoon.

Phonics & Maths:

In Phonics we have been working towards our personalised targets.

In Maths we have been learning to name 3d shapes. Can your child recognise 3d shapes in your home or in the supermarket?

Next Week:

We will be learning about The Christmas Story and thinking about Jesus.

We will be collecting in reading books and reading record books on their reading day. Children will not need their book bags at school after this, thank you.

Monday 18th December is Christmas Dinner day. The children can bring in a Christmas hat to wear. Please name your child’s hat.

Monday 18th December Please send your child in with a named plastic bag to take home any work and belongings from the Autumn Term.

Notices:

Thank you for your kind donations of bottles for the Christmas Fair. Next Friday (15th Dec) is our final non-school uniform day. Please could you bring in some cakes and cookies to sell at the Christmas Fair which will be held straight after school until 6pm on Friday.

Tuesday 19th December will be our last day at school. We will finish at 1.30pm. The children have asked for a Christmassy dressing up day (please don’t buy anything new). We will be having a little celebration by watching a Festive film and making Christmas treats to eat.

Term 3 will begin on Thursday 4th January.

No more Forest School. We are expecting to begin Forest on Tuesday 16thJanuary for Group 1. Final details to follow.

Please keep younger children with you in our outdoor area and in the playground before and after school. Two Reception children have been knocked over while off playing in the playground this week before school!

Donations of good quality soft toys would be much appreciated for our Teddy Tombola at the Christmas Fair. Please hand these in by Thursday 14thDecember. Thank you.

Please can we have donations of boys’ underpants for our spare clothes box?

As we are an eco-school we will not be handing out Christmas Cards at school. If your child would like to make a Christmas decoration to show they are thinking about their friends at Christmas, they may bring it in to put on the school Christmas tree.

Have a lovely weekend.
