Dear Parents

At Prize Giving yesterday we celebrated a number of achievements, including the awarding of the cups below. These included: Attendance, Music, Cooking, Sports, Maths, Eco, School Council, and More Able, as well as congratulating all the children on their successes over the year. Every child has made a contribution to the rich and varied life of the school which has been celebrated in our weekly ‘Well Done’ assemblies.

Harry Bartlett Cups
At yesterday’s prize-giving assembly, Poppy Queenan and Annabelle Butler were presented with the Harry Bartlett Cups for their outstanding contribution to school life, well done!
Mr Newman Cups
The Newman cups for sporting excellence were awarded to Orla McArdle and Fergus Kingsley-Bates – congratulations!
House Point Trophy: The winner this term is the Blue Team with 1,652 points – well done – there were only 4 points between blues and greens!

Leavers: Today we said goodbye to our Year 6’s in a celebratory service. We wish our Y6 children all the very best of luck and look forward to hearing about their future successes and achievements.

Staffing: Congratulations to Mrs Nixon who gave birth to a baby boy, Finn Nixon, on Saturday – Mrs Hope (proud Nanna) says he’s gorgeous! In September we will welcome Miss Hannah Mayall who will be covering Mrs Nixon’s maternity leave in the Reception class. We are sadly saying goodbye to Mrs Warner and Mrs Harbottle who are leaving us as Key Stage 1 Teaching Assistants; we wish them both well in their new ventures.

Parent/Class Information Meetings: 2017-18
Once again we will be holding group Class Meetings for parents/carers (children are welcome to attend) in September, where the class teachers will give an overview of the work children will be covering over the next academic year, as well as giving out other relevant school information, diary dates, etc. These meetings will take place in the classroom on the dates outlined below (there will be individual parent/teacher consultations later in the term to report on progress):-
Year 6 – Mrs Peters – Tuesday 11 September, 3.15pm
Year 5 – Mrs Crouch – Monday 10 September, 3.15pm
Year 4 – Mrs Walker – Wednesday 12 September, 3.15pm
Year 3 – Miss Crooker – Thursday 13 September, 3.15pm
Year 2 – Mrs Voce, Mrs Vint, Ms Quartermain – Monday 17 September, 3.15pm
Year 1 – Mrs Voce, Mrs Vint, Ms Quartermain – Tuesday 18 September, 3.15pm

This year, we are offering Reception parents an opportunity to learn about how we teach Reception children Phonics (Read Write Inc) and Maths (Abacus) on Monday 17 September, 2.45-3.10pm.

Swimming : Year 5 will start on Tuesday 18 September – look out for the Parentmail message at the beginning of term.

Musical Instrument Tuition : Mr Allen will be running a ‘hands-on’ session for any potential Key Stage 2 woodwind pupils and their parents straight after school on Thursday 6 September. He will give children the opportunity to try out the instruments and find out more about lessons.

Clubs: You will still be able to look at clubs and book online via Parentmail over the holiday – please make sure you have done so by Friday 7 September as we may have to cancel those with insufficient numbers. Thank you for your patience with the new system.

FOHNS : Huge thanks to Laura Wyatt and all the Committee for all the great activities provided and to everyone who supported their fund-raising efforts! When you return in September there will be a fantastic new Pirate Ship for the children to enjoy which the Friends are now raising funds to pay for (see below).

Silver Celebrations!
We will be celebrating our school’s Silver Jubilee with a Pirate Week commencing 10 September, culminating in a Reunion/Exhibition for parents and the wider community, past and present, on Thursday 13 September, 6-8pm. We will be having another Pirate Day where children can come to school in their Pirate outfits, with Pirate Picnic and Circus Skills workshops on Friday 14 September. We will collect pieces of silver over the course of the week to add to our Pirate Ship fundraising.

Over the holidays, we would like invite children past and present (and parents/carers!) to either write something (poetry/letter/memories), create a model, or draw a picture of or about the school to submit for our special exhibition. If anyone has any old photographs or memorabilia of school life over the past 25 years, we would also love to include them in the exhibition. Please name these and bring to school at the beginning of September.

Reminder: We follow the standard Oxfordshire policy of no jewellery in PE so if children are getting their ears pierced, please do so at start of summer holidays so they can be removed for September!

Out of School Achievements : Mae Moore (ballet), Kobe White & Toby Price (cricket).

Enjoy your summer holidays. We will see you back on Wednesday 5 September, Years 1 – 6, with Nursery and Reception Friday 7 September because of home visiting new parents and children.

Yours sincerely

Mrs S Belgrove
Head Teacher
