Newsletter 23 June 2017

Dear Parents

The children have all been very sensible this week with the incredibly hot weather.  The tree-belt has certainly earned its keep!  On Wednesday at 5.00pm I took a photograph of the outdoor thermometer in the courtyard as it reached the dizzy heights of 33 degrees C in the shade! It has been great to see lots of the classes outside making the most of our grounds.

School Activities this week:.

  • This week our Y6s have been enjoying the beautiful weather at Yenworthy Lodge and reports are they have had an amazing week of surfing, coasteering, beach-combing amongst other wonderful experiences. Thank you to Mrs Peters, Scott Orchard (Chair of Governors), Stew Puttick (Outdoor Ed Advisor) and Daisy Williams (Work experience) for their supervision and support.
  • This week in Collective Worship I told a story of three mountains to illustrate the message that we are all important pieces in the jigsaw puzzle that makes up our world.
  • The Baptist Church entertained the school with their puppet show and magic cake trick in Collective Worship this morning, with the message to thank God for our wonderful world.
  • Y5 made and decorated cup-cakes as part of the CN partnership of schools Bake Off. There was an extremely high standard (a match for Mary Berry) and the winner was Orla McArdle.  Well done to everyone involved; Orla will represent the school at the partnership Bake Off next month at Chipping Norton School. They have also been dissecting flowers and naming the parts.  Apparently, the stigma is a ‘sticky gooey thing…
  • Y4 had a fantastic visit to Kenilworth Castle yesterday as part of their Big Question on castles. Zoe Milne wrote in her recount:

A tour guide named Sonia showed the kids around and took them to the gatehouse…she explained. ‘If you get past the drawbridge, you’d then come across murder holes where people would drop buckets of wee or hot sand!’

  • Y5 have been taking their cycling proficiency test this week.
  • Our Y4s and Y5s attended the CNPS Athletics festival. They all represented the school well showing the Olympic Values of Respect, Excellence and Friendship. Several children were placed which was a great achievement as they were competing against Y6 children.
  • Y2s have been working with Mrs Inglis in Art and produced some stunning seascapes. They are also taking home a plant with instructions on how to care for it.
  • Y1s were thrilled to receive two replies to their messages on their balloons – both from Northamptonshire over 30 miles away!
  • Y3s have been focusing on Science this week looking at everything to do with plants.
  • Foundation Stage have been fascinated to see little froglets grow from their tadpoles and the Nursery were very excited when the chrysalises arrived all quivering ready for the butterflies to emerge.

Dinner Money:  There is £416.25 owing on dinner money- please pay your arrears promptly as the school cannot afford to carry this debt.

FOHNS Family BBQ – Friday 7 July, 3.15-6.30pm (please note new times this year!): The Friends are working hard organising lots of activities –  the event starts off straight after school with lots of games – new for this year an exciting Golf game and Cream Teas – with BBQ food served from 4.30pm.  The licenced bar will be open throughout.

We will be having a non-uniform day on Friday 30 June in exchange for sweets (no chocolate please!) for prizes. If you can help beforehand, at, or after the event, please e-mail the office.
