Newsletter 4 April

Dear Parents

We will soon be looking at Foundation Stage Admissions for September – if you have any siblings 3 or over in the summer, please ensure you have completed and returned an Admission Form (available from the school office).

Harry Bartlett Cups:  This term they have been awarded to James Tibbetts-Reeves for working hard in all areas of school life and to Lilya Macdonald for being a wonderful role model for other children.

Music Lessons: There will be no Keith Allen music lessons on Thursday 24 April 2014.

Clubs: The list of clubs being offered is attached – please send forms (and payment where necessary) back by Wednesday 23 April.

School Meals:  Tuesday 22 April there will be a menu change to Monday’s selection: sausages with mash, vegetarian savoury rice, coconut and jam cake. The new Summer/Autumn lunch menu will be going home with children today for after the Easter break.

WW1 Poetry Competition:  Our Y6 children entered the WW1 poetry competition as part of the Chipping Norton Literary Festival, where all schools in the partnership were invited to take part. There are three children short-listed as finalists and two of them are from our Y6!  Many congratulations to Ettie Rux-Burton and George Ford who have been invited to the prize-giving at Chipping Norton Town Hall later this month.

Beauty and the Geek: Ella Rux-Burton, with her sister Ettie and their friends, have been busy putting on a play with all donations going towards FOHNS .  Together they sourced, directed, rehearsed and performed ‘Beauty and the Geek’ at the weekend and have donated £217 – wow!

Bank Request: We have received a request from our bank to ask that when writing cheques please only use blue or black ink (not coloured inks). Thank you.

Saucepan: We have a large saucepan with lid if anyone is missing one (possibly from the Mexican Night?)

Found: An Apple iPod Touch has been found in the village park 02/04/2014  – see school office for details.

Let’s Get Cooking : The annual BIG Cookathon took place today, led by Mrs Hope, Miss Persaud and Sue Harris with the aim of getting as many people cooking together on the same day as possible.  Groups of children from each class made a healthy pizza recipe, inspired by Easter gardens, and shared the recipe and cooking techniques with the rest of the school in Collective Worship.  Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped to make this such an exciting project.

Katharine House Hospice Christmas Card Competition: We have had a letter and certificate to thank all the children who entered.  A selection of the top entries will shortly be on display at Bloxham Mill Business Centre. Dates have yet to be confirmed.
KS2 Choir and Wind Band: On Monday the Choir and Wind Band walked down to the Baptist Hall to perform for The Monday Club. There was a very appreciative audience who enjoyed songs and performances on piano, recorder and flute.

WELL DONE!  This week we have said well done to:- Lydia Lewis, Karina Graham, Oscar Ward, Emily Carroll-Mayes, Connie Bennett, Pippa McArdle, Silas Jack, Victoria Harris, All the Choir and Wind Band, Lydia Bennett, Maddie Davies, All Year 6.

Mrs Belgrove’s Stars of the Week: Matthew Campbell for his accomplished piano playing at The Monday Club. Maddie Davies for her mature attitude and hard work in everything she does.

Attendance: Well done to Year 2 for Full Attendance last week.

Activities/Visits : Thanks to Year 6 for a very interesting class assembly on our link with Sweden. The Big Cookathon took place today.  The Choir and Wind Band performed for the Monday Club. Today was a non-uniform day organised by the School Council.  Children and staff brought in a £2 donation to participate which will be used to make improvements to the children’s toilets. (This was their decision!)

Out of School Achievements : Well done to: William Ingham who came second in a rugby festival and third in the Gloucestershire county cup as part of Stow Rugby Club, Blake Robinson, Stage 3 Swimming Award.

This week’s Hymn of the Week has been ‘Easter Praise’

Our Christian Value of the month for April is Forgiveness From The Lord’s Prayer: Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.                                                                                                                         Luke 11 I wish you all a very Happy Easter. We return to school on TUESDAY 22 APRIL (except Part Time Foundation Stage children who return on THURSDAY 24 APRIL.
