Happy New Year! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas holiday.
Primary school places – now is the time to apply if you haven’t already! If your child was born on or between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014, you need to apply for a primary school place now. You should still apply even if your child already attends our nursery. Deadline for applications is 15 January 2018. Apply online at www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/admissions – it’s quick, easy and secure.
Harry Bartlett Cups: Every term we award the Harry Bartlett Cups to one girl and one boy who make a real difference to the school and are outstanding role models. For the autumn term we awarded the cups to Ned Kingsley-Bates and Rosie Petre; well done to both of them for their outstanding contributions to the life of the school.
Reminders: Year 4 Swimming starts Tuesday 9th January.
Guitar lessons – moved from Monday 8th to Wednesday 10th January.
Piano lessons start next Friday 12th January.
Year 4 are visiting Warwick Castle on Friday 12th January. All children will need to bring a packed lunch.
Clubs: Due to insufficient numbers, Drama Club on Fridays and Morris Dancing Club on Thursdays are cancelled. We are sorry to disappoint the children who signed up.
Holidays in term time: Please can I remind you that the school cannot authorise holidays in term time or any time off unless there are exceptional circumstances. For example: parents in the forces, weddings or funerals. Documentary evidence will be needed to support any application.
Attendance: Holidays in term time affect attendance and even the slightest drop in attendance puts children at risk of underachievement. I am obliged to send letters to parents of any child with poor attendance, especially below 90% which falls into the ‘persistent absentee’ category and is reported via our annual census. In line with Chipping Norton School and other partnership schools, we are using an ‘Attendance Diamond’ to monitor the attendance of every child:
97-100% (Green Group) = no risk.
95-96.9% (Yellow Group) = Risk of under achievement.
93-94.9% (Amber Group) = Serious risk of underachievement.
90-92.9% (Pink Group) = Severe risk of underachievement
0-89.9% (Red Group) = Extreme risk – possible court action
Free School Meals: please speak to the school office next week if you think you may be entitled to Free School Meals (even if your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 and even if your children do not want the meals!) In a couple of weeks, our School Census records the pupils eligible for Free School Meals, which generates additional income used to support children’s education, including helping with paying for school visits and additional support in classrooms. We can find out quickly if parents are eligible so, if in doubt, please speak to us as a matter of urgency!
Well Done: This week we have said well done to all the classes for their excellent enthusiastic start back.
Out of School Achievements: Zeteny Jarvas Stage 2 Swimming.
