Open Afternoon – Friday 5 July, 1.30 – 3.00pm : You are warmly welcome to attend your child’s classroom to look at the work they have been doing in school. Refreshments available in the hall. Karina Bell is doing a Piano Concert for Parents at 3.15pm in the Study Centre on Friday 3rd July after Open afternoon. All welcome.
Sports Days: Next Monday we have our Alternative Sports Day – please could all children have their PE kit in school with their team-coloured t-shirt and bring a hat and sun cream. Drinks will be provided.
M@C: Friends of Hook Norton School will be running a variety of activities at M@C at The Brewery tomorrow from 1.30pm. Tickets £10 for adults, children free.
In preparation for the building work which will start (we hope!) over the holidays, we will be moving Year 2 into the Year 6 classroom and Year 6 will relocate to the study centre. Yellow Room will move to the Year 2 classroom and the courtyard will become the Foundation Stage outdoor area until the work is finished. We will begin the move on Friday 10th July, we would be very grateful if children could take personal belongings home before then so we are not moving things unnecessarily and there will be less likelihood of things going missing!
Lost Property: Please check the table outside Year 6 classroom. Any left -over items will be bagged and recycled!
Library: The last lending library session has taken place – all books to be returned by next Thursday, 2 July. Thanks to Mrs Orchard for all her help with this. We have a huge number of books borrowed and not returned (library and reading books). We cannot afford to replace books so please check at home and return any books you find.
Well Done! : Each week, we celebrate particularly special achievements of children. This week we have said well done to:-.Annie Williams, Emily Monelle, Sam Bayliss, Ellis Holdsworth, Dixie Kenneford, Amelie Tarbit, All Year 3, All Year 4, Year 5 BGN Maths team, Mrs Wood’s Maths group, Year 6 children not on transfer this week, Oliver Wilson and Oscar Hawthorne (missed off the newsletter from last week – sorry!).
Activities/Visits: All children in school spent the morning in their new classes for September on Wednesday to get to know their new teachers, and Year 6 children have been attending transfer visits to their secondary schools this week in preparation for moving into Year 7 in September.
A group of Year 5s (Victoria Harris, JoJo Styles, Jerome Davies, William Porter, William Ingham, Matthew Campbell) spent a day at a gifted and talented maths day at Blessed George Napier in Banbury. We came third out of fifteen schools – a great achievement!
Ella White represented the school in the partnership Bake Off; her beautifully decorated cupcakes were placed second and she also was awarded third prize on the taste test. Well done, Ella!
The Choir and Windband had the experience of a lifetime playing with professional musicians at St Peter’s Church on Saturday – they were brilliant!
Year 4 had an action packed day in London, which included a boat trip where all the sights were pointed out them and the raising of Tower Bridge,
Year 3 became Victorian children for the day, visiting the Village Museum in the morning where they learnt about Hook Norton in Victorian times, watched the last working brewery steam engine and saw Roger tacking up the shire horses and attaching them to the dray. The children all received an old penny and were amazed at how much one penny could buy! Many thanks to the staff at the Brewery for making us so welcome.
