Friday 16th September
We have had great fun going on pretend boat trips, creating collages, learning about capacity in the water tray, making and playing with playdough, putting on shows on our make-shift stage and learning some new songs with Mrs Nixon’s guitar! We have been drinking lots of water and learning how to stay safe and cool in the hot weather.
Phonics and Reading:
We have started our phonics programme and have learnt the sounds ‘m’, ‘a’ and ‘s’. Can your child name any words beginning with our new sounds? Please ensure that when you’re discussing the sounds with your child you use the full value sounds. If you’re unsure what these sound like you can find examples here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5J2Ddf_0Om8
Thank you for completing the sound sheets with your child at home. It is great for them to practice reading and writing each sound. If they wish, the children can bring their completed sheets into school to be shared. If they are named we will get them back to you to continue revising these sounds at home.
All of the children have read to their key person this week and we have loved sharing stories together. Thank you for following this up by reading with your child at home. Some weeks your child will come home with a sheet to go with their book- please help them to complete it and send it back on their reading day.
This week we have been learning to count objects into sets and match each set to a written numeral. The children have enjoyed playing number bingo and working out the missing numbers on a number line. Can your child recognise any numbers in their environment? For example on a front door or road sign.
Next week’s Learning Journeys will be Callum, Layton and Sienna.
Mrs Belgrove has kindly asked if parents and children could wait at the nursery gate (next to the school’s main entrance into the office) before and after school, to avoid congestion at the playground gate.
Don’t forget about the FOHNS’s ‘Back to the Future’ event at the brewery this Saturday. More information can be found on the main school newsletter.
