Live Love Care Think Learn Dare

Reception Times 20 October 2017

This Week:

We have thoroughly enjoyed learning about how Sikhs and Hindus celebrate Diwali. Inside we have been listening to the story of Rama and Sita, listening to songs in Hindi and Punjabi, learning some Indian dances and making symmetrical Rangoli patterns.

Outside we have been designing patterned elephants, creating Rangoli patterns using chalk and making pumpkin curry and chapatis to taste. Today we have also tried Coconut Barfi (chocolate and coconut sweets).

Mrs Collins delivered a brilliant collective worship about our Owl Value of the month, Responsibility, and we learnt the names of the books of the New Testament.

Phonics & Maths:

In Phonics we have learnt our new sounds sh, r, j and v. Thank you for helping your child with these at home.

In Maths we have been learning to count along a blank number track and place the numerals in the correct place. We have also been learning to chant to 100 and looked at how to count using a 100 square.

After half term:

We start back to school on Monday 30th October. This week will be our book week focusing on Room on the Broom. Among many other things we will be learning about rhythm and rhyme and thinking about describing the characters. On Friday 3rd November we will be having a dressing up day, focusing on the characters from Room on the Broom so your child will need a costume.

We have sent your child home with a WOW! sheet. Please encourage your child to draw and write something about their holiday or stick on some photographs- our WOW! Sheet display is looking a little bare!

Learning Journeys:

Learning Journey children will be Teddy, Jack F, Lucas and Jarrod.

It is now muddy in the garden and following discussions with parents and staff we would like to take this opportunity to discuss school footwear. If you would like your child to wear wellies in the garden please make sure they bring a pair of clean shoes to wear in the classroom and that the wellies are clearly named. When purchasing wellies please consider the sole grip as your child may be climbing in them.

Forest School for Group 1 on Tuesday 31st October. We still would like one parent helper for the AM group. Thanks to those who have signed up to help.

School photographs Thursday 2nd November- please send your child in their neatest school uniform!

Please can all items of clothing and shoes be named.

Please keep younger children with you in our outdoor area.

Have a lovely half term holiday.
