We have had a very hot and busy week! Mrs Wright covered for Miss Persaud on Monday. Group 1 had a great time in the Forest all day on Tuesday making flags and medals and enjoying a lunch cooked over the camp fire. The children were very excited to find out which Owl class and colour team they will be in from September when they join Key Stage 1, and to meet their new teachers and TA’s.
Yesterday we bid our Vicar John Acreman a fond farewell and happy retirement as he came in for his last Church assembly. His caring, generous, and warm-hearted nature will be sadly missed.
Inside we have been continuing some activities on the football World Cup; cutting out pictures and ordering them by size. We have also made minibeast life cycle books.
Outside we have been painting minibeast pebbles and hiding them in the garden, playing with spaghetti worms in the compost and blot printing symmetrical butterflies.
Phonics & Maths:
In Phonics we are working towards children’s individual targets.
In Maths we have been consolidating our knowledge of numbers to 20. Can your child write numerals to 20 correctly?
Monday 2nd July 2.30pm: Reception class Sports afternoon. Please join us on the school field.
Friday 6th July 1.30-3pm: Open afternoon-this is an opportunity for parents/carers to join their children and look around the classroom and garden. At 3pm parents/carers are welcome to enjoy the Choir performing in the Hall.
Thank you to all those who came to our Incredible Edible event last Saturday. I think you will agree that the gardens look great.
Reception Staffing – We are delighted that Miss Hannah Mayall has been appointed as Reception Teacher to cover Mrs Nixon’s maternity leave from September.
Parents/carers of children joining the Reception class in September will have the opportunity to meet Miss Mayall at the transfer meeting in the Reception classroom at 2.45pm on Thursday 12 July.
Forest school all day session:
Tuesday 3rd July – Group 2
Please can the children come ready in their waterproofs and wellies. Waterproofs protect children from scratches and stings as well as the rain. We would also recommend you apply the once a day sun cream, insect repellent and provide a sun hat. Lunch will be cooked in the Forest and snacks and drinks will be provided through-out the day.
Friday 6th July 3.15-6.30pm FOHNS family BBQ on the school field. There will be lots of games, BBQ food, ice cream, activities on the new track (partly funded by FOHNS), raffle and licenced bar. Thank you for the donations sent in today. We would also appreciate your help with selling some raffle tickets which are being sent home today to be returned, sold (with money & stubs) or unsold, by Thursday 5 July please. Finally, if you are able to help with setting up from 9am, helping to run a stall or clearing away afterwards, we would be very pleased to hear from you (by e-mail please to firstname.lastname@example.org).
Have a great weekend in the very warm weather!!
