School Facilities

In no small part thanks to our hard-working Friends of Hook Norton School, we are privileged to offer children at our school some wonderful facilities.

We are proud of our exceptional outside space. Something that visitors often comment on and a feature that gives our school a real point of difference. A large playing field plays host to football matches, cartwheels and daisy chain making in the summer and turns into a real hive of activity in July when we hold our annual Sports Day.

Surrounding our field is our purpose-built running track – used for our Daily Miles. Alongside this we have a large playground complete with basketball nets, bouldering wall and a beautiful village mural hand painted by a talented member of staff. The use of age-appropriate play equipment such as skipping ropes, stilts and bean bags is encouraged. The adventure playground features a large pirate ship complete with steering wheel and slide! It also has an agility circuit and musical instruments.

Our lovely wooden gazebo is used for occasional lessons but primarily is a great space for children to play and shelter from the British weather!

Along the far side of our field is the tree belt. A firm favourite for pupils of all ages to build small dens and nests, to set up woodland shops and to let their imaginations run wild!

We are lucky that we also have the space to accommodate both a pond and a wildlife area.

We offer a recent addition of ‘The Cabin’ to our outside space which is regularly used for music lessons and as a room for smaller groups of children to be taught.

As you move around the school you then find our beautiful garden area complete with a greenhouse and raised beds. Managed by a wonderful group of volunteers, small groups of children learn how to plant and take care of a variety of plants, fruits and vegetables.

Our school has a lovely courtyard at its center with a small water feature and lots of plants. There are some reading arbors here giving children a space to curl up with a good book at playtime and a selection of brand-new picnic tables – making outside packed lunches a possibility – when the weather allows!

With huge thanks to FOHNS, we were able to overhaul our KS1 library in 2024 and offer a wonderful space for our younger children to visit, choose and read books. Another beautiful mural adorns the wall, and the cosy reading den is very popular!

The school has a dedicated ICT suite with enough laptops for a full class of children. Our next donation from FOHNS will allow us to update these and provide additional ICT resources to classrooms.

We have 2 additional spaces to mention which directly benefit the wellbeing of children requiring 1:1 care. ‘The Nest’ is a large and airy classroom with its own outside space where children can work, learn and socialise away from the main classroom. Our ‘Sensory Room’ is a smaller room with a dark space and calming lights for children to access when needed.

We are incredibly proud of the facilities our school has to offer its pupils. With tight budgets, we are extremely grateful for all those in our wider community who have assisted in making these become a reality for our children to enjoy.
