Our Nursery
Here at Hook Norton School, we have a long-established Nursery providing care for children aged 3 and 4 years on either a full or part time basis. With a large classroom and wonderful outside space, it really is the perfect place for your child to continue their education.
Nursery Sessions
You can choose either 15 hours a week - morning or afternoon sessions including one full day or 30 hours a week - all day sessions in our nursery.
Our Nursery space
Whilst the Nursery is very much an integral part of Hook Norton School, the children do have their own entrance to the Nursery a purpose built classroom and bathroom and an outdoor area which is shared with the Reception children.
Inside there are planned adult and child led activities that help the children to develop in all seven areas of learning:
- Personal, social and emotional development (PSED)
- Communication and language
- Physical development.
- Literacy.
- Maths.
- Understanding the world.
- Expressive arts and design.
A water tray, malleable and creative activities, large and small bricks, construction, maths and mark making areas, musical instruments, small world imaginative play, a role play area and an extensive selection of books are all available daily.
Our school day
Children are supported in learning the structure of the day and the routines which will help them grow in confidence and independence. On arrival they hang up their coats, organise their belongings, say hello to staff and then enjoy a rich environment with a wide range of resources both inside and out. High quality interactions between staff and children optimise learning and development, which is recorded and shared with parents through Learning journeys and the opportunity for termly meetings. Children are encouraged to care for their environment and support each other in tidying away. A group time at the end of the morning and afternoon sessions will focus on developing a love of stories, rhymes, phonics, maths and singing.
Lunches are eaten in the classroom and hot school meals are available as a choice if preferable to a packed lunch.
At home time children are encouraged to gather their personal belongings, put on their own coats and sit quietly together until they are collected.
Moving on
Our unique shared planning set up throughout Early Years ensures that your child will be prepared for a seamless transition through to the Reception year group and continue to develop a lifelong love of learning.
At times, our Nursery children are invited to join the main school in special assemblies and to watch some of the wonderful performances put on by older children. They are generally captivated by such events, and it is a lovely introduction to ‘big school’! Each Summer we host an Early Years Sports Day on our main school field. Definitely a date for your diary!
We offer a stimulating, supportive and happy learning environment provided by experienced staff, and we look forward to welcoming your family to be a part of our wonderful village school.
