Pupil & Sports Premium
What is Pupil Premium?
In 2011, the government introduced Pupil Premium funding which is allocated to schools to provide additional support to children who are, or in the last 6 years have been, eligible for free school meals. The grant is also in place for children of service personnel and those who have been looked after by a local authority.
How is the funding spent?
Schools are responsible for allocating the funds received, with teachers and educational leaders being best placed to identify what their pupils need most.
Aim
Hook Norton C of E School aims to ensure that all children in receipt of Pupil Premium should reach their age-related expectations and develop their self-confidence. The needs of these children will be identified and met, and their progress will be monitored throughout the school year.
Further details can be found in our Pupil Premium Strategy Statement below.

Sports Premium
What is Sports Premium?
This grant was set up by the government in 2013 to improve the quality of P.E. activity and sports in Primary Schools across the UK.
How is the funding spent?
In the academic year 2023/24, all schools with more than 17 pupils received £16,000 plus an additional £10 per pupil. It is applicable to pupils in Years 1 – 6.
Schools have the responsibility to spend the funds in a way that will most benefit their students. We review this annually. At Hook Norton school we have decided to spend the grant as follow;
- employ specialist sports teachers to teach some of the PE curriculum (including swimming) and work alongside our teachers when teaching PE to strengthen teaching and learning in this subject across school
- contribute to Partnership Community Co-Ordinator salary for termly meetings with partnership primary link PE teachers and organising partnership events to improve quality of PE teaching and provision support and engage all children in physical activities such as clubs and partnership events
- release the PE Co-Ordinator to meet termly with the partnership team and to have time to research latest ideas
- pay for professional development opportunities for teachers in PE and sport
- increase pupils’ participation in the sports and physical activities and outdoor adventurous activities on residential visits
- improve resources to a support the development of the subject
