School Council
School Captains
At the start of each academic year, 4 School Captains and 4 Vice Captains are elected by their peers. These Year 6 pupils are responsible for leading by example, helping younger pupils, supporting staff when appropriate and working alongside others to ensure our Owl Values are reflected in all school activities.
This is a position of responsibility and one where skills can be gained in preparation for the transition to secondary school. Public speaking and leaderships skills are nurtured, and they learn to work as a team to positively influence the rest of our school community.
They are there to listen to, and represent, the views of other pupils and work towards positive change.
School Council
We pride ourselves on our active School Council – made up of children from Years 1 to 6. This group gives pupils a meaningful way to voice their opinions and have an impact on the issues which surround them. It gives them an opportunity to take on a leadership role and feel what it is like to really take ownership and have accountability.
Each term our pupils elect a new committee, with 2 children joining from each class. The committee meets regularly and discusses issues which matter to them.
Over the past few years, the committee has worked alongside The Hooky Neighbours Pantry to establish a local food bank, debated how parts of the outside play areas can be equally shared between year groups and managed and promoted a nearly new clothes sale in the community.
Eco Council
Alongside our School Council, we run our Eco Council. This is made up of a group of elected pupils who meet to discuss how our school and potentially the wider community can be more environmentally friendly.
Alongside regular litter picks within the school grounds, these pupils have previously helped to create habitats for nature, encouraged students to walk to school where possible, discussed recycling and promoted our new recycling bins.
We are proud to have been awarded the Eco Schools Green Flag award for these efforts.
